Lauterbrunnen

The lakeside town of Interlaken sits between Lakes Thun and Brienz. Follow the valley into the mountains and before long you reach Lauterbrunnen – a classic Swiss village in the valley under the mighty Jungfrau mountain. This is our classic summer Alpine resort – right in the heart of Switzerland.

Lauterbrunnen at around 800m (2650 feet) guards the entrance to the valley and is the departure point for the most spectacular mountain railways in Europe. At a staggering 3454 metres, the Jungfraujoch station is the highest altitude railway station in Europe!

All around you are famous glacier topped mountains, and spectacular waterfalls. The railway passes the infamous north face of the Eiger; James Bond battled at what is now the Piz Gloria restaurant on the top of the Schilthorn while the Trummelbach falls are the only accessible glacier waterfalls actually inside a mountain!

The cable cars and trains all operate in summer and you can easily reach the mountain villages of Murren, Wengen and Grindelwald, or travel down the valley to the lakeside town of Interlaken and Wilderswil

Whether it’s walking, sightseeing, shopping or just lazing around, you will be sure to find plenty to do in this spectacular scenery in the heart of the Swiss Alps.

The Chalet Rosa

Right in the heart of the village is the very attractive Chalet Rosa. Owned by our good friends at Ski Miquel, they have graciously allowed us to use the chalet for the summer season. The building is truly ancient – 350 years or so. But with 11 bedrooms, all tastefully modernised, it has been brought bang up to date for the 21st century traveller. All rooms have ensuite showers and the spacious lounge and separate dining area are very stylishly furnished.

Some rooms are larger and can sleep up to 4. The maximum capacity is 22 beds. Should we need additional accommodation, extra rooms are available at nearby hotels.

The chalet Rosa will be run by our own LivingSun Holidays staff for the summer season and we will provide half board with breakfast and evening meals provided. One night each week, on the staff day off we ask you to eat out in the village at your expense.

How to get there

The best airport to use is Geneva simply because of the multitude of cheap flights available. We will provide a courtesy transfer from Geneva every Saturday leaving at approximately 4.30pm which means you can fly from Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton, Bristol, Dublin and Liverpool and connect with the transfer. The return transfer will arrive at Geneva by 12.15pm so the return journeys also connect.

Alternatively, hire a car at Geneva for the week or take the train. Swiss railways are ruthlessly efficient after all!

Prices are in £ per person and are for accommodation only including half board in a standard twin room with en-suite facilities. Child discounts are available for those under 13 on the day of departure.
