On the slopes

The Skiwelt is a magnificent ski area, linking up several substantial ski resorts, and now doubled in size again by a new link to Kirchberg and Kitzbuhel.

This is classic Austrian skiing, but where investment in new facilities is taken seriously. The Skiwelt is at the cutting edge of ski technology - they even have a solar powered skilift! Massive investment over many years has made this a superb ski region with a great lift system. In 2009 it actually won the annual award for the best ski resort in the world from Ski Resort Service International.

From our hotel access to this huge area is just 150m walk away. A couple of short drag lifts take you to a point from where you can ski to the bottom station of the Itter gondola lift, and from there you’re away into the whole system.

Austrian hospitality is at its best here; there are around 70 mountain chalets – restaurants, cafes and bars - all creating the classic Tyrolean atmosphere for the perfect ski holiday.

Beginners* * * *
Ski School starts near the hotel but as soon as you have mastered the basics, you can be up on the big lifts to the open spaces above. Here you will find an immense number of slopes, of varying difficulty, but always some that even the most nervous beginner can handle.

Intermediates* * * * *
Intermediates will enjoy the experience of being able to ski to another village - this ski area is so vast there won’t be many ski Pistes you will need to ski twice. Some of the best pistes are the long runs back into the valley – tree lined trails that are a delight to ski.

Experts* * *
Probably it’s fair to say that the Skiwelt is not the world’s most demanding ski area for true experts, but the distances and range of runs is exceptional and will provide stimulating skiing for all good skiers. Fresh snow opens up acres of off piste powder and don’t forget you can ski across to Kitzbuhel if you wish for extra variety.

Cross-Country
The Skiwelt is one of the biggest areas in Europe for cross country skiing – all the valleys have langlauf trails and officially there are 180kms of cross country trails available. You really could ski somewhere different every day.

Off the slopes

Itter is a small village with a few shops and cafes – ideal for a laid back atmosphere. The main social centre is Soll where you will find a wider range of shops, cafes and bars. Austrian après ski includes folk dancing, tobogganing, apfelstrudel, coffee and schnapps, you‘ll find it all here.

In the hotel, the entertainments will be more low key and relaxed – perfect if you’ve skied all day! There’s also a sauna to sooth away the aches and pains from the day’s skiing.

The Hotel Edelweiss

A little outside the centre of the village but very close to the first lift is the very pretty Club Hotel Edelweiss. Owned and managed by Peter and Alison Neurauter, this hotel is clean and modern while remaining charming and traditional in its style.

The large open plan ground floor holds a large restaurant and separate breakfast area and bar. Breakfast is an all-you-can-eat buffet while the evening meal is an excellent four course affair.

Downstairs is a cellar bar while the rooms upstairs are typically Tyrolean all en-suite with a shower. Most rooms can accommodate a third bed while there are some family rooms and one huge suite available for a group or family on request.

Ski pass prices

A standard Skiwelt 6 day pass in the main season will be 189€ for adults, 151€ for those born in 1991-3 and 94.5€ for those born 1994-2003.
